Success Story: Knee pain relief

Mrs. Usha, 60-year-old, housewife, sought treatment at Cura physiotherapy clinic due to persistent pain in her right knee which included immense pain at night, difficulty in walking and stair climbing.

Prior to visiting the clinic, she had experienced a series of mis-diagnosis from several doctors. However, she was recommended initiating physiotherapy as a potential solution for her condition by one of the doctors.

Mrs.Usha on her friend’s recommendation approached us. She underwent a thorough assessment leading to an accurate diagnosis of her knee pain. During the assessment we realized she had tenderness, swelling, immense pain and was confirmed with diagnosis of right-side meniscus tear. With the correct understanding of her condition, a personalized treatment plan was devised to address the underlying issues causing her discomfort.

Initially electrotherapy was started for a week, which consisted of IFT & Ultrasonic therapy for reduction of inflammation at the right knee joint. She was advised to continue with ice packs. With electrotherapy and ice packs, her inflammation subsided. As well as the night pain gradually disappeared and pain at rest for almost negligible.

She then had pain only on walking and stair climbing. Basic activation exercises for knee muscles were initiated, stretches were started along with electrotherapy sessions. Wireless electrical stimulation was given along with exercises to accelerate the recovery rate.

Eventually, in next 5 days, pain on walking subsided and we progressed on strengthening exercises with band. She continued them for 2 weeks and with these exercises she was able to walk around freely and without any pain.

We also did plan a Matrix Rhythm Therapy session for her to eliminate the tightness and increase the flexibility and mobility of the knee joint to avoid any future recurrence of the symptoms.

As the knee pain was reduced with walking, we progressed on adding up with weight bearing exercises which did help her for stair climbing along with mobilization for the knee. Exercises were progressed under supervision. Balance and proprioception training was included in the rehab as well.

Following a diligent adherence to the prescribed program, Mrs.Usha began to experience significant relief from her knee pain. The combination of goal specific treatment planning and her commitment to recommended exercises proved to be an instrumental in her recovery emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment!

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE ANKLE SPRAIN?

An ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments that connect the bones of the leg to the foot. The injury typically happens when you accidentally twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way. When ligaments surrounding the ankle are pushed past these boundaries, it causes a sprain. You should call your doctor right away if you sprain your ankle. Your doctor can determine the severity of the injury and recommend a proper course of treatment. It can take several weeks or months for a sprained ankle to heal completely.
